About the ebook
Frank explores how to live ‘The Good Life’ in a sustainable way and finds that it all starts with food. He reviews the science around climate change and food and summarises it into a priority list with actionable tips. In between are 40 easy recipes to turn knowledge into action.
Whether you eat meat every day or have been vegetarian for years, we are all on a journey. This book is a compass for heading in the right direction.
Part 1: What can I do about climate change?
The book starts with Frank’s personal journey. Can you make a difference as an individual? What does a sustainable version of ‘The Good Life’ look like? And how do we stay hopeful when things are moving so slowly?
Part 2: The food system
These chapters explore the key issues with the current food system but also the hopeful solutions that are available.
Part 3: What’s for dinner?
The third part follows the structure of our compass: what are the most impactful food choices – based on science – that we can take to reduce the climate impact of our food. And also: which choices have a minimal impact, so we can relax a bit more? Each chapter includes practical tips.
With 40 easy recipes
In between the chapters are 40 easy recipes (of which 39 are main courses). Most of them use familiar ingredients and simple cooking steps, but often in unexpectedly tasty combinations. They always include various vegetables and a source of protein.
The recipes are designed for the average home cook while also providing interesting combinations for the more experienced. The majority of the recipes are completely plant-based and the others can be easily turned into a plant-based version.
New version
The first version of the hardcopy book came out in 2019 and was the start of Fork Ranger. In 2020 and 2023 we printed a revised edition.
This new version of the book summarizes 6 years of experience.
What has stayed the same:
- The overall message and conclusions
- Most of the recipes
What is new:
- Updated sources and research for 2025
- More personal stories to bring the facts to life with specific examples
- The chapters that explore specific food choices are linked to the compass with a label ranging from ‘most impact’ to ‘minimal impact’
