We designed Fork Ranger for maximum impact<\/p>\n\t

Eating less meat is the third biggest solution to climate change, according to the scientists of Drawdown. We sent out a survey to our readers to see what our book has achieved so far.<\/p>\n\t

As you can see we didn’t just reach the sustainable hippies \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tSource<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t

In a survey (n=59) we asked readers to answer a few questions of the situation before they had the book. Among these was the questions: How often did you eat meat? Nineteen people said they ate meat (almost) everyday. On the following page we then asked the same question about their current situation and only three people answered with ‘(Almost) everyday’.<\/p>\n\t

Our readers now eat 36% less meat <\/p>\n\t

And that\u2019s only on average<\/strong>. Some people went from eating meat everyday to mostly plant-based!<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"36\n\t\t\t\t\tSource<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\tBy assigning each answer an average days of meat consumption we can estimate how far their meat consumption was reduced.
\n(Almost) everyday = 5,5
\n 3-4 times a week = 3,5
\n1-2 times a week = 1,5
\n(Almost) never = 0,5)\n\t

That means their total footprint<\/em> is now 10% lower<\/p>\n\t

Elon Musk got nothing on us: buying an electric car would ‘only’ reduce their total impact by 6,8%.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"total\n\t

The average Dutch environmental food impact accounts for 38% (CE Delft). Of that, meat accounts for 72% and dairy for 10%. That means a meat reduction of 32% and dairy reduction of 8,7% is a total impact reduction of 10,07%. In the same report of CE Delft, fuel use for cars is 48% of the total transport emissions, which make up 14% of the total impact.<\/p>\n\t

We have already saved around 200 tonnes of CO2-eq<\/p>\n\t

That’s enough to drive around the Earth 20 times, or to the moon and back.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"around\n\t\t\t\t\tSource<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t

It’s difficult to know how many people have used the book. We’ve sold more than 1100 copies. If one in three use the book regularly that would be around 310 people. The average food emissions for Europeans is 1,8 tonnes of CO2-eq. That means 310*1,8t*36%= 201,6t. <\/p>\n

If half of Europe would use the Fork Ranger book… <\/p>\n\t

It would save as much CO2-eq as closing 61 coal plants<\/strong> (Germany has 84).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"coal\n\t

That’s the equivalent of saving all of the Amazon rainforest that has been destroyed so far.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tSource<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t

This implies everyone using the book like our average readers, so assuming that 370,5 million people achieve a 36% reduction in meat.<\/p>\n
